If you support the Second Amendment, empty thoughts and prayers just make things worse.

Another week, another mass shooting in the United States.

This time, shoppers at a mall in Texas, a state where the Second Amendment is practically a religion. At the time of this writing, nine were dead and seven injured.

Then come the usual “thoughts and prayers” from pro-gun politicians, who insist on doing nothing in the face of tragedy and suffering.

After offering these sanctimonious thoughts and prayers, Republican Congressman Keith Self, who represents the area where this shooting took place, was asked to respond to critics of such empty thoughts and prayers in the face of tragedy. He said:

“Well, those are people that don’t believe in an almighty God who is absolutely in control of our lives. I’m a Christian. I believe that he is.”

Say what? This is the line you trot out when nine people in your district have been slaughtered at a shopping mall?
