Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor was the musical guest on the second episode of the 18th season of Saturday Night Live. Actor Tim Robbins was the host.
I was 11 years old and at a sleepover at a friend’s house. It was the only time I got to watch Saturday Night Live in those days, as my parents had a restriction on our only television being on after 11:00pm. This friend’s parents were a bit more lenient for Saturday night sleepovers, as long as we all woke up for church the next day.
I don’t recall much of the episode. This was one of the golden eras of SNL, with Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Tim Meadows, Kevin Nealon, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade and Julia Sweeney. But no skits stand out for me after 31 years.
Basic stuff, Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey, a mock commercial, Weekend Update with Kevin Nealon. O’Connor performed Success Has Made A Failure Of Our Home as her first song, and I don’t remember that performance.
