I’m Not Impressed With Threads
I don’t like the current state of Twitter, but Threads is not providing what I want out of social media.
100 million people have branched off their Instagram account into an account on Threads. This new product from the sinister brains at Meta is supposed to be the Twitter killer. The thing that goes for the jugular and capitalizes on the dissatisfaction since Elon Musk took over.
Over one week in, I’m still not impressed.
I use Twitter for a very specific purpose, and that is promoting my own content and keeping up with other content and news in the world of lower-league soccer. You might call me a niche user.
Since Threads became a thing, my Twitter use has not decreased. My Twitter engagement has not dropped. All the same people who used Twitter for soccer content before Threads are still using it after Threads.
Most people in my Twitter-world created a Threads account to make sure they had their desired handle, just in case Threads did happen to take over. But so far, it shows no signs of doing so. If I leave Twitter for a few hours, I have dozens of Tweets to read before I reach the last new one. If I leave Threads for an entire day, I have maybe six or seven new Threads before the feed transitions into complete and utter randomness.
