Here's the problem with the "bans" as presented though: they refuse to confiscate all the "banned" firearms and features out there with the grandfather clause, and then prevent new buyers from acquiring them. They also carve out civilian exceptions, and allow active police, retired police and honorably discharged military (who are all by definitions "civilians" just like the rest of us) to continue to acquire them.
So what we're left with is one group of civilans who are allowed these firearms, and another group of civilians who are not. The former leans right, the latter leans left, and is often the target of violent rhetoric and sometimes attack from some of the former.
Exceptions and special classes for a constitutional right? No thank you. You either impose the same restrictions to everyone, or impose them on no one.
