Even if there had been a database 25-30 years ago when I saw abuses happening as a teen at two different SBC churches, it wouldn't have stopped any of them. None of the perpetrators were prior offenders. They struck first at church, taking advantage of the lack of any background or character interview to be in a position of chaperone authority over kids. They easily took advantage of the fact that these churches teach kids and youth deference to authority.
This all comes far too late for many of us, and we will never trust the church again, even if they go through these reforms.
